How do I register for Family Weekend?

Can I register on-site?
Yes. Specific on-site registration information will be forthcoming.

Pricing/Cost/Refund
What is included in the cost of registration?
Friday evening dinner (Scrappy’s Extravaganza), the President’s Breakfast, Mean Green Extravaganza activities and food, Family Weekend T-shirt, evening activities, and entrance to other Family Weekend events without special charges. *Football tickets are complimentary for all participants.

How much does Family Weekend cost?

Is there a day-pass option for Saturday?
Unfortunately, there is not a day-pass option for those who wish to participate only on Saturday. Please know that we are working towards offering this for future Family Weekend Events.

What activities cost extra, and what is their cost?
The 5K Fun Run/1 Mile walk requires a registration fee. Please click here for more information.

Is there financial assistance available for Family Weekend 2008?
We can arrange payment options for participants struggling with the cost of FW 2008.  Please contact us at 940.565.4373 for more information.

Requests for refunds due to extenuating circumstances should be directed to Melissa Ruud McGuire, Director of Student Success, or Jillian Fleming, Coordinator of Parent Programs, at 940.565.4373

What is the refund policy?
Individuals who cancelled their registration prior to a predetermined date will receive a partial refund.  No refunds will be given for registration after this predetermined date.

Check-in
Where is check-in?

On Friday, October 11th Check-in will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the University Union Courtyard located on the 1st Floor. Participants checking-in on Saturday, can check-in before the President's
Breakfast
at Mean Green Village starting at 8:00 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.

Events
Are all FW events required?

No. We do not require participants to be at each event.  In fact, we provide a variety options to help you decide what is best for your family.

What happens at Scrappy’s Extravaganza?
Friday night dinner cookout and official university welcome.

What is Friday Night at Clark Park?
The Friday night before every home football game, students gather in Clark Park to hear live music, watch the UNT band, cheerleaders, and dancers perform, and get ready for the next day’s football game. Live music begins at 7:30; Pep Rally activities will begin at 9:00.

What is Friday Night at the Movie?
More information coming soon.

What are the Recreation Center Options on Saturday?
The Rec Center will offer several options for Family Weekend participants on Saturday.  Family Weekend participants can work out for free from 10 AM – 2PM and swim for free from 1 PM –3 PM.  There will also be tours from 10 AM – 12 PM.

Children and Siblings can participate as well, but all children under the age of 18 must be supervised at all times by a legal guardian.

What is the Chili Cook-Off?
More information coming soon.The 12th annual chili cook-off will occur on Saturday afternoon in the Mean Green Village.  Anyone wishing to enter a recipe can register by filling out the Chili Cook-Off Registration Form online. Family Weekend participants not wishing to enter can observe and taste as the cook-off takes place. Registration for the Chili Cook-off does not register you for FW 2008.  You must register for Family Weekend utilizing the Family Weekend Registration Form.

What are the meal options and menus?
This has yet to be decided, please check back. More information coming soon.

What is the Saturday Lunch Option?
Lunch is NOT included in Family Weekend registration costs.  We encourage individuals to participate in the Dine around Denton.  Coupons to local businesses will be provided at check-in. Shuttles to the Denton Square will be provided beginning at 11:30 AM. They will leave from the Gateway Center.  The last shuttle will leave Denton Square at 2:30 PM. 

Football Game
What if I only want to attend the football game on Saturday Night? Do I have to purchase a Family Weekend package?
No. Tickets for UNT football games are sold through the UNT Athletic Ticket Office. Seats are sold at a cost of $10/general admission & $20/reserved seating. Individuals wishing to purchase individual game tickets contact the UNT Ticket Office at 940.565.2527 or ticketoffice@unt.edu

Who are we playing in the Football game?
Louisiana-Lafayette.

Where is seating in the Stadium for FW Participants?
Individuals attending family weekend receive a general admit pass to the football game. Seating is in sections L-VV and is on a first come first serve basis. Students may sit with their parents in the General Admit section for Family Weekend.

What is the Mini-Mean Green?
A chance for the Jr. Mean Green Club to run onto the field during half-time.  Individuals attending the game wishing to participate should meet at Gate 9 with 6 minutes remaining in the game.  For ages toddler to 15 years old.

What if I do not need tickets to the Football Game because I am a Season Ticket Holder?
Football tickets are complimentary for participants of Family Weekend. If you will not be needed your tickets, please feel free to pass them on to someone else once you receive them at check-in.

Parking
Where should I park?

More information coming soon. Once the schedule of events is finalized we will know the best parking locations for participants.

Tuition Draw
How does the tuition draw work?
You can purchase tuition drawing vouchers for $5/ticket or 5 tickets for $20.00 prior to Family Weekend or on-sight (at Family Weekend Registration) up until game time on Saturday evening. Individuals who purchased tuition drawing tickets at Orientation will be included in the tuition draw.The winners will be announced at half-time during the football game. You do not have to be present to win.

Hotels
Where should I stay?
Click here for a list of names and contact information of several hotels in the Denton area. While we hope to establish partnerships with hotels in the Denton area in the near futuer, please note the University has no relationship with these hotels. To make a reservation with one of these hotels, please call the number listed.
